Davao de Oro – The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through the DENR-UNDP/GEF Biodiversity Corridor Project, successfully facilitated the delivery and inspection of agricultural inputs in CADT areas in Davao de Oro as part of the provision of planting materials for the establishment of Sustainable Land Management Exemplar Sites in the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor (EMBC).
A total of 10,608 planting materials were delivered and distributed from July 14 to 16, 2026, to four beneficiary organizations in Davao de Oro: the Sitio Estabillo Tribal Farmers Association of Brgy. Andili, Mawab; the Katipunan Tribal Farmers Association (KATRIFA) of Brgy. Katipunan, Nabunturan; the Bahi Indigenous People Organization of Brgy. Bahi; and the Langawisan Bahi Tribal Association (LABATA) of Brgy. Katagbakan, Maragusan.
The planting materials consisted of 3,855 banana corms, 1,326 calamansi seedlings, 612 lanzones seedlings, 933 cacao seedlings, 1,024 durian seedlings, 416 avocado seedlings, 412 coffee seedlings, and 2,030 pineapple suckers.
The project team, along with the DA-BSWM Inspector, ensured quality and completeness of the seedlings distributed to the Indigenous Peoples Organization (IPO) in preparation to the establishment of the Sustainable Land Management Exemplar Sites (SLMES). Municipal Agriculture Office of each respective partner LGUs have also provided support and assistance during the activity through arranging logistics and ensuring efficient transport and hauling of the planting materials to the sites.
The commitment of the partners and stakeholders in working together on the implementation of the project shows promising vision in strengthening sustainable land management within the Ancestral Domain and along Key Biodiversity Areas in the EMBC. The IPO of Mansaka and Mandaya tribe of CADT 076 Davao de Oro expressed appreciation and gratitude on the shared efforts and services that extends to and across different communities.
This initiative is part of the DENR-UNDP/GEF project on “Integrated Approach in the Management of Major Biodiversity Corridors in the Philippines” or BD Corridor Project, which seeks to operationalize integrated management of biodiversity corridors to generate multiple benefits, including effective conservation of globally threatened species and high conservation value forests, reduce land degradation and deforestation, promote Sustainable Land Management (SLM), and enhance local biodiversity-friendly livelihoods.
The project is led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) with the Sustainable Land Management (SLM) component being implemented by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). 🪴🙌
