In a vital step toward improving the country’s land use strategies, the DENR-UNDP/GEF Biodiversity Corridor Project collaborated with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to conduct the Pilot-testing of Updated Modules for CLUP Formulation and Training of Trainers under the project from October 7-11, 2024, at The Ritz Hotel at Garden Oases, Davao City.
This event brought together key participants from the DENR, BMB, DSHUD, Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), and other stakeholders to enhance their knowledge and skills in formulating Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUPs) with a focus on key environmental and social concepts.
The training sessions focused on introducing and pilot-testing four key updated modules, ensuring their relevance and practicality before broader implementation: Integrated Ecosystem Management (IEM), Sustainable Forest Management (SFM), Sustainable Land Management (SLM), and Gender and Development (GAD). These modules were crafted to ensure that future CLUPs incorporate a balanced approach to land use that protects ecosystems, fosters sustainable development, and promotes gender equality.
This initiative is part of the DENR-UNDP/GEF-funded BD Corridor Project, which seeks to operationalize integrated management of biodiversity corridors to generate multiple benefits, including effective conservation of globally threatened species and high conservation value forests, reduce deforestation and degradation, and enhance local biodiversity-friendly livelihoods.
