Mindoro Biodiversity Corridor holds
Site Inception Workshop for Region 4B
The Mindoro Biodiversity Corridor (MBC) of the DENR-UNDP/GEF Biodiversity Corridor Project recently conducted its site inception workshop for both Oriental and Occidental Mindoro provinces, following the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor site inception workshops in the cities of Davao and Butuan last March.
MBC in cooperation with the DENR Foreign Assisted and Special Projects Service (FASPS), the DENR Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) and the National Project Management Unit (NPMU) of the BD Corridor Project conducted the onsite inception workshop at the Filipiniana Hotel in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro on May 12-13.
Workshop Program
Among the guest speakers and resource persons were Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PENROs) Mary June Maypa of Oriental Mindoro and Ernesto Tañada of Occidental Mindoro, MIMAROPA Regional Executive Director (RED) Lormelyn Claudio, and BD Corridor National Project Manager Dr. Mary Jean Caleda.
Those who delivered their opening messages were Dr. Selva Ramachandran, UNDP Resident Representative (via online) and DENR-BMB Assistant Director Amelita Ortiz, who is also the National Project TWG co-chair.
MBC Corridor Project Manager Shalimar Ilejay and BD Corridor NRM Officer Ariel Erasga presented the social and environmental screening procedures including project risk log, gender action and stakeholder engagement plans, and indigenous peoples planning framework.
Clariza Ablaza of UNDP Philippines presented the Social and Environmental Standards online while Michelle Yu of DENR-FASPS and BD Corridor Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation Officer Dulcie Rivera presented the Project Results Framework and M&E plan.
Workshop Outputs
For the workshops, the participants included those from different Project partner agencies (DA, DOST, DILG, etc.) coming from their respective regional government offices including the DENR divisions and Protected Area Superintendents (PASUs) as well as representatives from NGOs.
During the plenary presentations, participants actively discussed baselines and mid-term amendments or suggestions for the Project indicators, as well as the implementation of the annual workplans for 2022-2023 and towards the end of the six-year Project and its monitoring and evaluation plan, and the contribution of participants coming from their respective offices and organizations for the successful implementation of the Project.
