The inception workshop for the Biodiversity Corridor Project of the DENR in partnership with UNDP and GEF is slated this coming December 2-3, as the project aims to generate multiple benefits including the effective conservation of globally threatened species and high conservation value forests.
The BD Corridor Project, otherwise known as the Integrated Approach in the Management of Biodiversity Corridors in the Philippines, will focus on the integrated management primarily of the Central Mindoro and Eastern Mindanao bio-corridors for the next six years.
These corridors in Regions 4B and in Regions 11 and 13 have been cited for their critical importance as centers of endemism and as biodiversity hotspots, and also for their economic significance, vulnerability and extent of extractive industries and land use conversion, infrastructure development and land degradation.
As for the inception workshop, the BD Corridor Project will validate the results framework and finalize the multi-year plan until 2028 and more specifically the annual work plan for 2022. It will also tackle the roles and responsibilities of project team members including the corridor teams, as well as the strategies for each of the stakeholders.
